About Them:

The Gingerbread Centre was established in 1977 in Stoke-on-Trent, providing 24 hour supported accommodation for homeless lone parent families from across North Staffordshire. In 2014, we extended our service to include couples with children. We also work with partners across Stoke-on-Trent & North Staffordshire to provide floating support to families in the community at risk of homelessness.

"We are looking for a part time Night Support Worker to join the team for night shifts, with flexibility for extra hours via holiday and sickness cover. The role includes providing a warm, friendly and responsive overnight service with responsibility for maintaining the safety, wellbeing and security of all families and visitors.

Job Description:

  • Reception cover
  • Health and safety checks of the building
  • Security of the building and monitoring of visitors
  • Offering practical advice to families
  • Responding to emergencies and referring to other agencies where necessary
  • Managing of maintenance issues
This role will also include providing administration support, for example, updating records including handover notes and case files and the collation of data and statistical information. Night Support Workers will also liaise when needed with external agencies eg Emergency Services, Maintenance team etc.

All staff are also expected to ensure that the accommodation policies are adhered to by the families staying and deal with any isues arising in a confident, fair manner.

Successful candidates can expect to have regular training via courses, seminars and workshops to further persnoal development with a view to advancement within the organisation.

About you:

Applicants should be able to work night shits (9pm to 9am on a shift rota) and have a background that includes some knowledge and understanding of safeguarding, health and safetyand facilities management. The ideal candidates will be experienced in problem solving, escalation and referral of issues arising and be confident and capable in attitude.

The role includes the responsibility for accurate record keeping, plus experience of dealing with sensitive, confidential information.

Hours of Work:
Average of 26 hours a week. 9.00pm - 9.00am, via a shift rota

Wages/Salary:£10,072 (Based on an average 26 hour week) including payment for extra hours covering bank holiday's, annual leave and sickness.
